AROUND Alder Place

We are located just off of the trails for snowmobiling and four-wheeling/UTVs. You can go directly from our parking lot to the trail and then in the evening, park right in front of your room. We are a short drive, walk, or bicycle from Birch Lake, which offers great fishing, water sports, and a nearby public beach and boat ramp. There are biking and hiking trails as well as cross-country ski trails for the winter enthusiast. The Alder Inn is a great place from which to launch your trip into the Boundary Waters or to take that long awaited shower after your trip into the BWCAW. We have abundant parking for all of your toys ... boats and ATV trailers in the summer and snowmobile trailers in the winter. Regardless of your passion, the Alder Inn is a great place to rest up from your daily activities!

Birch Lake

Birch Lake is a large and very long lake. Much of it's shoreline is part of the Superior National Forest ... giving the lake a true wilderness feel. It is a great lake for fishing in the summer ... and ice fishing in the winter. You might also enjoy water skiing and tubing ... canoeing ... swimming ... or maybe just a boat ride. Regardless of your chosen activity, Birch Lake will reward you with beautiful views and plenty of space to enjoy your favorite water activity.

Cross Country Ski Trails

Just a short drive from the Inn are the Cross Country Ski trails. There are also groomed trails on the nearby golf course. If you are willing to drive a half hour or so, there is an abundance of trails in the area.

BIKING

You can bike from the front door of the Inn to the local paved bike path the meanders through a beautiful woods and ends at the Birch Lake Beach and Picnic Area ... where you can cool down in the lake ... recharge with your picnic lunch ... and then enjoy the leisurely ride back to the Alder Inn.

ATV and Snowmobile Trails

The Alder Inn is located just off of the Stoney Spur Trail. You can ride your ATV or Snowmobile from the Inn's front door directly to the trail ... and then spend the day exploring hundreds of miles of connecting trails! There is so much to do and see that you will never grow tired of riding!
